Initially this was the home of some landowners that eventually would make the town into one the main coffee producers. It is considered the "entrance gate of Mérida". It has the river Chama in the south and thermal waters to the north though the thermal waters are not so good. It was a very importatn scenario during the independance process. People and nature make this town very atractive to visit.
Travel tips
This is one of the towns around Merida that must be visited, perhaps in a one-day-visit. It is very beautiful. All of this towns have a Bolivar Square and a church. You will find easily a place where to spend the night or shops where to get handcraft presents, typical of this area.
