Mucurubá has an indian origin, where "mucu" means place, and "ruba" is a tubercle similar to potato. Its weather is cold but dry which makes it a good place to cultivate potato, carrot, lettuce, garlic, strawberries among others.

You must try the delicious cheeses produced in the small farms around. The secret of its flavor is the branches used for smoking the cheese. If you happen to be there in easter, don't forget to try "dulce de curruchete", made with cheese, panela (a product derived from sugar cane) and cloves.
This is a tradition celebrated only on the 8th of december. Thousands of candles are lit to honour their town's patron. The people put the candles on the streets, and on the Squara and at 7 o'clock, theya re lit and the towns lights are switched off for one hour! There is a procession, music and fire works.
