One of my Favourites places in Old Town. This part of the Old Town in Madrid is known as "Madrid de los Austrias" and this small square is for me one of the most lovely and quiet place of my city. You can also find restaurants, Pubs and Cafes of all Kinds.
Travel tips
It is very typical to go to La Latina on Sunday at lunchtime for takin some beer or wine with some "tapas".
Take a peek out the window of the train between Bilbao and Iglesia stops on the metro (line 1, light blue). You'll see that there's a beautifully preserved old metro station. I thought it was just a gorgeous but unused relic, but it turns out that it's a museum! You can visit for free or sneak a peek every time you go by on the metro as I do.
what I liked about this is that you can rent your for a month or 6 months or the full year and it will always be here for you. Saves you buying and trying to store one. And if your in Madrid long that a few weeks but not longer than a year then its great. Wish I knew about this before I bought and customized my bike :)
It's an impressive day trip to this imposing complex of royal palace and monastery which is an important intellectual centre with burgeoning library and art collection. You can get the trip started at 10:00am at Moncloa's No.661 bus station, at 11:00am you'd have already began a window-shopping in the palace. For you have a lot of things to see, you'll be welcomed to come back after taking a break outside in a comfortable bar or a restaurant. Price: 8euros / 10 euros with guide.
