When I went to London my very first time to find accomodation we used the Loot paper but it had a problem, the best apartments usually were rent before 10 am so you have to be an early riser one. Then talking to people they recommend me this site:

http://www.gumtree.com/

and I discovered this other

http://london.craigslist.co.uk/

Gatwick Airport

recommendation by massagran

Gatwick is the perfect airport if you're going to South London.
Some tips:

- You can have a shower for free (or for £1 if you need a towel)
- Visiting London for a while? You can buy a local SIM card for your mobile from a vending machine next to the toilet on the first floor, near arrivals.
-Gatwick Express: Takes 25% less time, Costs 120% more! (Southern Rail is a better option unless you're in a great hurry).

The post codes in the United Kingdom are quite particular in that a post code like SW7 4AN is so precise it identifies a building: One should read it as:

SW: South West of London, Area 7 of the South West and 4AN identifies a house or a building.

On road/street signs of London you will find the initials WC (west central), EC (East Central), E (east), W (west), SW (south west), SE (south east), N (North), NW (North West) which will help you find you way around.

You can enjoy all the great museums in London for free. (for example The Natural History Museum, Victoria and Albert, Science Museum, The British Museum, The Tate Modern, The National Portrait Gallery, The National Gallery and many more).

Museums are funded by taxes, private donors and philanthropists (and it's also possible to leave a few coins as a small donation at the museum).

London may seem like a very expensive town. But nothing further from the truth if you know where to look. You can find free food, museums, festivals, cinema, dance and theatre, comedy ... all without spending a penny.
A first place to look is London is Free
then the Time Out Magazine
or london 4 free
