fresh & funky

Gothenburg has very good trams, some new and fresh, some old as hell. When entering a tram that looks old, beware that there might not be any digital signs to tell you where you are and what the next stop is.
Most of the times the taped voice which declares where you are isn't on, there are no automatic door opener, so you have to push (when on the inside) or pull (on the outside) the doors open...You HAVE TO push the stop buttons or pull the string, otherwise the tram will not stop...

Learn some swedish

recommendation by mjaumjau

Swedes speak very good english, although thats about all the english you'll see on the streets of Gothenburg. No signs or any information in gothenburg is translated into english, so it's not very tourist friendly in that way.
It might be a good idea to learn some basic words, but swedish is pretty similar to english, it's not hard!

But everyone under the age of 70 speaks pretty good english in sweden, so just ask us! We're friendly :) Many speak good german, spanish and french.

Fika

recommendation by mjaumjau

Fika is the swedish word for sitting at a coffee shop for hours and hours talking, debating and laughing.

Just "grabbing a coffee and go" is unusual (at least after working hours). Just do as the swedes, chill out with 8 cups of coffee or tea for a couple of hours ;)
In many cafes a second cup of coffee or "påtår" is included in the price or can be bought for a couple of extra kronas.
