Fès is the thirth biggest city in Marocco and their medina is like a labyrinth so very easy to lose your way. For this reason I recommend to contract the service of a tourist guide but a real one. So ask in your riad where they have the numbers of the differents guides who speaks different languages.
If you feel like to walk by your own then try to follow the starts that you will see in the medina. Those starts marks differents routes that cross the medina from north to south.

There are a lot of taxis arround town but you can walk easily specially if you are in the medina, there is not transport there.
The train station is located in the Ville Nouvelle, a 10-minute walk northwest of Pl Florence. Trains depart every two hours between 7am and 5pm to Casablanca, via Rabat (3½ hours) and Meknès (one hour), plus there are two overnight trains. Five trains go to Marrakesh (eight hours) and one goes to Tangier (five hours).
