After one leaves a place like this after the first 17 years of life, one has much to discover elsewhere and even more to unveil with each annual visit home. I had just ended an on-the-go summer in DC and Ghana followed by a mini-road trip before pulling up here in a rough and smelly hatchback. From Michigan that same day's morning, I drove straight to the edge of South Carolina's coast. I felt a chapter of my life both beginning and ending at the same time here. The quiet dawn said it all.
