Situated about 70 miles north of the Arctic Cirlce, this Inupiat Native village is slowly being swallowed by the Chukchi Sea. In February 2008, the village--who is also a federally recognized tribe--sued 23 oil companies and electric companies claiming excessive emissions have caused their island to erode. Climatologists, journalists, missionaries, and more have flocked to this remote sliver of sand to see first-hand the human impact of climate change.
