Shows and concerts, the list
This website lists upcoming music shows and concerts from extremely independent to mainstream in the bay area. Tends to focus more on rock and its offshoots than hip-hop or rap, but you can find some of that here too. Great for finding punk or indie shows.
You can also find a printed version of this list in a teeny tiny font in most record stores and in some venues.

There are new bike paths in SF, which despite its hills is a very bike-friendly city - the perk of these trails that go along the bay is that you don't have to cross any traffic, so they're good for skittish or inexperienced bikers, or children.
One of the most popular trails is the ride from the Ferry Building to Sausalito via the Golden Gate bridge. You can find printable maps on the official site for the Bay Trails.

Muni pass
Either if you're staying 1 or several days just buy a Munipass for the amount of time you are going to be in San Francisco and use the public transport as much as you can. Buses, BART (subway), trams, etc. Well worth the money.
