Things to do in Omaha

The lake at DeSoto Bend used to be part of the Missouri River, but once the Mighty Mo changed course, it turned this bend into a lake that's now a wildlife refuge. There's lots of great fishing, animal watching and hiking. My personal favorite is the Bertrand museum, which tells the story of the turn of the century sunken steamboat ship that was discovered underground on the site of the refuge in the 1960s. The museum has thousands of artifacts from the old boat.
