Tainan City travel guide

Anping Great Fort, better known as Eternal Golden Fort because of the inscription on the entrance, was built in the XIX century by French engineers in order to resist the Japanese troops. Includes a training field and was equipped with five Armstrong Cannons. They make cannons firing demonstrations at certain hours.

Tainan is really famous for its good food and its night markets; the biggest in the country. Unlike Taipei's, Tainan Night Markets are not displayed everyday. Each one has a different schedule, opening just two or three days a week. The most popular are Wusheng night market (武聖夜市), Yonghua night market (永華夜市), Lovers' night market (情人夜市), Flower garden night market (花園夜市) and Da Dong night market (大東夜市).

Walking left from the Pao Gao Stone Gate you will find the small Yonghua Temple, located in a small square in one of the streets that leave the Fujhong Street. The old trees in front of the temple are decorated with Tao amulets.

Located in the former Five Channel Zone, the most properous trade center of the city in the old times, is this stone gate that served as the officials reception archway in the past.

Amazing restaurant in the center of Tainan to taste real Taiwanese food. It's decorated in 50's style and, although it use to be crowded, has plenty of space in its two floors. I really recomend the "ma you ji mian shian" (thin noodles in jinger soup); delicious!
