This centrally located plaza has free wifi. Unfortunately the plaza is a monstrous construction of cement and isn't a very comfortable place to hang out, but there are some restaurants facing it where you can sit and have a drink while you do your wifi deeds.
Madrid metro ghost station - chamberi
Take a peek out the window of the metro between Bilbao and Iglesia stops on the metro (line 1, light blue). You'll see that there's a beautifully preserved old metro station. I thought it was just a gorgeous but unused relic, but it turns out that it's a museum! You can visit for free or sneak a peek every time you go by on the metro as I do.
Terrace at goethe institute
This classical school has one of the most secluded and nice terraces in Madrid. You dot´t need to study German to go there and you can enjoy a more than correct "Menu del Dia". Sometimes food has sort of German air.

One impressive building at Gran Via, the most majestic street in Madrid, hides a secret: apart from being a meeting center for Army people, it also has a restaurant. It used to be exclusive for Army members and relatives but today, it´s opened to anyone who knows it. Restaurant offers "menu del dia " served by well-dressed waiters in white fabric tablecloths.
