Cementerio de la florida
This relatively unknown little cemetery is locked up year round and has loads of feral cats wandering around, but it's the common grave that holds the remains of the people of Madrid who were killed during the uprising against the French troops in May of 1808 as commemorated in Goya's famous paintings 2 de mayo and 3 de mayo.
The cemetery opens once a year on May 2nd, but even when it's closed you can get a decent feel for the place.
Marsh: el atazar
If you like windsurfing and live in Madrid this is one of the best options. To get El Atazar take the highway A1 till the exit in the 60th km, them M-127 till Cervera de Buitrago.

Lavapies square
Lavapies is one of the places in Madrid with more tradition: it was a small and humild zone, and now is famouse because has a lot of inmigrants living here, specially indian people.
You can find here a lot of indian restaurants, small shops of food and spices and some other typical stuff from Asia.

Beautiful to walk up and down in the morning, in the afternoon and late at night. The heart of Madrid, a tacky Broadway Avenue. It has the first skyscraper from Madrid (the Telefonica building) and many buildings that look like wedding cakes ;-)

From its privileged residence surrounded by trees and some of Madrid´s greatest monuments, the National Museum of the Prado is one of the most visited attractions in the capital.
Together with Velázquez's Meninas and The Shootings of May 3rd, 1808, by Goya, the museum displays masterpieces from Spanish, Flemish and Italian schools.
Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 8pm. Closed on Monday.

Caixaforum madrid
CaixaForum Madrid emerges as a live space opening its doors to old, modern and contemporary art, to music and poetry festivals, to multimedia art, to debates on current affairs, to social symposiums and family and educational workshops.

Atocha station
This is the main train station in Madrid. From here you can catch a train to the main cities in Spain, long and short distance. You can catch a speed train (AVE) to Barcelona which gets there in 2,5 hours and the same to Sevilla. There is also a botanic garden to relax the time you are waiting.
