This is the hostal that I recommend to friends and family for a mid-range hostal in Madrid, it's really clean and if you ask for an interior room it is also quiet despite being in a noisy central area (and there is actually light in the interior rooms, although I imagine the exterior rooms have a much more interesting view of the plaza de Opera).
It's nothing fancy but the people are friendly, don't speak English but make it easy to communicate, and you can't beat the location.

A great plan to scape from the busy Madrid after a hard week. Just in 45 minutes you will get to this village where you will only find peace and calmness. Once there you can ride a horse, treking, practict windsurf in "El Atazar" or just spend a romantic and relaxing afternoom in the jacuzzi inside the room.
The owners are very friendly and like the "El Arco" has only four rooms, you will feel like to be at home.

Here is a good bargain if you search for a cool place to stay in Madrid: Living Madrid rents appartments where you simply feel at home, comfortable - with regards to space, equipments, such as wifi and home cinema. I think all of them are located downtown, within walking distance of places of interest like museums, nice neighborhoods for hanging out or going out. In some of them can fit up to 6 people and prices range from €85 for 2 to +/-€160 for 6 per night.

A great hidden secret. You might rather rent and apartment than staying in a hotel. This is an amazing choice. These 12 apartments are correctly furnished ( always important), well located and fairly priced. They are almost always full so call in advance.

This hotel belongs to a successful and wide advertised Spanish hotel chain: Roommate. Every hotel reproduces one concept focused in one person. "Oscar" is in the heart of Chueca. It´s well-known during warm season due to its terrace atthe rooftop, however, its bar is popular throughout the year. It´s functional, cool and fairly priced.

Right in the edge of Chueca neighbourhood, this simple but nice hotel is a great opcion for shopping animals. If you make a reservation online you receive a free bottle of wine. Good to start the night.

One of the few hotels you can find in Malasaña area. It´s in the first floor of a building ( something common in Madrid). Absolutely targeted to boho design-friendly people. Technology plays a key role in the rooms, which even have Home Cinema.

If you like theatre iconography, this is your place. This hotel has one of the most beautiful and scenic stairs you can find in Madrid. urban legend says that the top floor used to be the house of Carmen Sevilla, a famous popular singer. Price is more than fair.
