Mesob ethiopian restaurant
Great Ethiopian restaurant in the center of Madrid with a great variety of options. There's lots of vegetarian options, and meat dishes.
I highly recommend the misir wat, a spicy lentil dish with berebere sauce, as well as the shiro alitcha, a creamy dish with split-peas. Delicious.
The homemade honey-wine, tej, also deserves a try.
Dishes run from 8 to 15 euros each.

La aguja taberna
Not far from the Lavapies plaza, la Aguja is a dark little bar that takes its name "The Needle" from a love for vinyl records. They always play entire sides of records (sometimes both sides) and have a pretty great selection of rock, punk, psych, etc.
If you're looking to snack as well they have some amazing potato dishes and toast with unusual options like zucchini with smoked cheese and honey.

Great place to end the night. It's open everyday until 6am.
They usually have live music.
During the weekends it could be really full of people and you might have to wait a long queue to go in..
Rock and Roll, Garage, Punk,...
Entre suspiro y suspiro
Great Mexican restaurant where you won't find any typical cheap tex-mex. The recipes here are Mexican Nouvelle Cuisine, with abundant portions, great ingredients and carefully combined ideas from traditional recipes. I really enjoyed myself when I went along with a Mexican friend. Good tequilas too!
The owners are painters and have beautifully decorated the restaurant. A great restaurant albeit a bit expensive.

If you wanna enjoy a dinner with your friends or with some special person that's the perfect place to do that.
Try the famous "pinchos" and the "Lateral salad" made of spanish ham, tomato and mozzarella.
Good prices and better atmosphere

Cafetería at doré cinema
A nice and quite still cafetería at Cine Doré, for enjoying a cup of coffee or eating some chocolatte cake.
Cine Doré is a really cheap, public cinema, which is responsible for the Spanish Film Library, that shows classic and independent film
