The Cathedral of Girona is special because it has the widest Gothic Nave in the whole of Europe measuring 23 meters. It is a beautiful structure & worth a visit. To reach the Cathedral there are 90 steep steps. The Cathedral itself dates way back to the 14th century and has a good mixture of Gothic, Roman and Catalan Baroque styles.
It also houses a museum and a cloister. The Museum displays items that date from the 10th up to the 13th century which is amazing & exciting.

St narcis fair

There are a lot of festivals and celebrations throughout the year in Girona, but the best one that I have seen there is the St Narcis Fair. It starts in in late Ocotober and runs about 9 days ending on Nov 9th, its named after the local saint, called The Saint of Flies lol. There are parade´s, markets, great foods and fabulous hot chocolates. There is also the strange human pyramid walking up steps games, has to be seen to be believed. But good fun none the less..

Museum of cinema

Go on a journey through the origin & early days of cinema and film. The museum is laid out very simply so you have to start from the top floor, with early Chinese shadow theatres all the way down the stairs to current and modern items. There is a great amount of movie of old fashioned movie equipment like projectors, cameras, and all sorts of other things, its a real mish mash. Enjoyable to pass away a few hours though !!

About 15 km north of Girona and probably known more so for the rowing during the ´92 Olympics is the lakes of Banyoles, a natural volcanic lake, massively sitting in the middle of the lush country side You can walk the whole way around the lake which is just fab if you like water like me and the frestest of air. There are archeological sites and the streets around are really cute and old, Harry Potter like !!!

Arab baths

The Arab Baths were built in the late 12th Century, long after the Moors had left Girona. They are modelled on earlier Roman and Muslim bathhouses. The baths contain a corridor and four rooms which are an apoditerium, a place for relaxing and changing with a central pool lit by a domed lantern, the frigidarium for cold baths, the tepidarium with warm water and the caldarium for hot baths. We like the atmosphere and the vibe inside, small but worth a visit !!!

Right beside the Cathedral is another excellent site - the Passeig Archeologic. It is a beautiful set of gardens that are sure to mesmerize you at first sight. We had a picnic and really enjoyed the surroundings !!!

The jewish history museum

This is interesting enough of a museum set in a 15th century synagogue . I learned a lot here about the Jews from Catalonia and how they lived and why they left. Big explanation panels and an important collection of medieval Hebrew tombstones invite the visitor to deepen your interest into the history and the Jewish past of Girona and of Catalonia.
