It's totally made of stone, and it's the biggest in Colombia (14.000 m2). It also ahs like cilindric stones around it which you can use to sit and enjoy the colonial view and the beautiful sky at night, very good view of stars.
Things to do
This church has a colonial barroque style. At night it's beautifully lit up, and really the whole square looks so atractive at night too. Inside the church you can see paintings from colombian colonial paintors Vásquez Arce y Ceballos and Jerónimo Acero.
Nowadays this is a bohemian city. It has colonial houses where diverse artists from different corners of Colombia and the world have moved to live there. This city was built in an area where thousands of years ago the ocean covered this land. That's why you will learn a lot about fossils (and also be able to see them!) since it's a very important study centre for arqueologists and scientists. Most of its streets are pedestrian, and people are so friendly like most colombians!
This market only takes place on saturdays from 4 am onwards! if you happen to be there then, you can't miss this, since it will give you a chance to participate in the most autochthonous market situations, rich in stimuli for all senses! Its rural inhabitants come from different farms around the city, wearing a "ruana" (tipical clothing in cold areas, like a small blanket with a whole in the middle for the head to go through it) and a hat. Make sure you have rib broth for breakfast! Delicious!
