A cheap way to see Venice from the Grand Canal is to take the line 1 vaporetto to Lido. The ticket is valid for 1 hour, so you can get off at Lido, a coffee and come back to Venice. You will have views of the Plaza de San Marcos spectacular!
The vaporetto costs € 6.50 per person, but almost never ask for the ticket.
There is also a pass from one, two or three days.
If you go to Venice in the rainy season bring wellies.
