In 1971 the Azadi tower in Tehran was known as the Shahyad tower before the Islamic Revolution. The history of Tehran stretches back more than 2,300 years, the Shahyad Tower has managed to become the symbol of Iran's capitol city in just a few decades. The arch rises from Azadi Square mirroring the Elburz mountain range. It is a 148 foot tall masterpiece of cut marble that marks the entrance to this historic city. When you get up close to it, it nearly takes your breathe away.
