The Great East Gate is one of the few remaining gates of the city wall built by the Ching Dinasty in 1725 that was demolished by the Japanese in order to build new roads. The gatehouses were added in 1736. Nowadays there are two East Gates: the one renovated in 1975 and the remains of the old Small East Gate.
