Gorgeous island full of hidden beaches, surf spots and places to eat. Seafood is incredibly fresh as the sea is no more than 5 miles away from anywhere. Fascinating history of German occupation (only part of the British Isles to have been occupied during war). Good weather in summer, nice lifestyle, very outdoorsy and friendly. You must try the Beach Cafe at Fermain, the Auberge at Jerbourg for (more expensive) food but stunning views. Cliff walks at Icart, fabulous ice cream in the cafe there.

It's only 80 miles/2.5 hours by ferry off the south coast of England and 20 miles north of France. (You can se France on a clear day). You can get good deals as foot passengers on the ferry or fly with Flybe - book far in advance and it's cheap.
