This farmhouse used to belong to famed “Leaves of Grass” poet Walt Whitman. Whitman was born in this Long Island-style farmhouse in 1819. Today the home was been transformed into a museum and visitors can tour the home and view a lot of interesting Whitman artifacts. I studied literature in college so visiting this home was particularly neat for me. I enjoyed looking through his old letters and manuscripts. Definitely a great place for anyone with appreciation for poetry and/or literature.
