Old palace from the XIX century, rounded by a nice park in the mountain range of sintra
Things to do
The national palace of Sintra, also called Palácio da Vila, was a royal palace in the XVI century. Nowadays, it belongs to Portugal government and it’s used just for cultural and touristic purposes. It’s a mix of architecture styles (medieval, gothic…).. It’s cheap and interesting to visit and they have discounts for students and groups.
This palace was built in the 18th century and it’s usually compared to the Versalles Palace in Paris. Its worth to visit and it’s included in the basic tour to Sintra
This Castle is in ruins. It was built by the Arabs on the 8th century and it was a very important military fort at that time. It was taken by the first Portugal king, Alfonso Henriques, on the 12th century. The structure is similar to Castelo San Jorge so, if you’re tired or don’t have enough time, you can skip this visit. If you have time, the views are great.
Quinta da Regaleira it's a Palace with huuuge gardens and
it is one of my favorite places in Lisbon. It’s not just that the Palace is beautiful and so interesting to visit (the library is amazing!) it’s also about the gardens... They’re full of beautiful corners, underground passages, and an amazing well. It’s unbeatable to walk around and imagining how people used to lived there.
It's a magical place. That's all i can say.
