In the 19th century a group of Jews emigrated from the Caribbean island of Curacao. One of them bought a land in the outskirts of Coro to bury his 8 year old daugther and gave birth to the jewish cemetery, nowadays located in town.
This cemetery is the first and oldest jewish cemetery still in use in America.
