Built in 1933 by Lillie Hitchcock Coit as a memorial to volunteer firemen, Coit Tower is a round stone tower situated atop of Telegraph Hill, North Beach. From here you can have panoramic views of all the city, from Golden Gate to Embarcadero and a privileged view of downtown with the Transamerica Building on first line.
Inside the tower, while you wait for your turn to get in the elevator, you'll find big and beautiful colorful murals depicting day to day life in California.
