We used to drive by here in the summer time but never stopped. It’s pretty fun when you’re hurling down the highway and you see a giant movie screen and you stick your head out of your car for just a second to watch some. Anyways, I decided that if I valued my life I should probably just stop one day and catch a movie the normal way. There’s a snack bar here that serves up some mighty fine angus burgers. The only problem here was the radio reception at times.
Things to do
This theater, open since the 1920’s, has a great vintage appeal and a ton of history. They’ve showcased a variety of bands over the years including some of the best punk bands of the ‘80s. I think it’s the Hudson Valley equivalent to New York City’s CBGB’s. Musicians such as David Bowie, Motorhead, Cheap Trick, The Rolling Stones, The Misfits, and Judas Priest all played here once in their career. These days the show quality has gone somewhat down hill with acts like Hatebreed, etc.
I’m not the huge rower of the family but my young brother is. He convinced me to go out with him after we heard the Hudson River Rowing Association was great for novices. The staff was really friendly and educational so I didn’t feel self-conscious at all. We met with a novice-rowing group and ended up having a blast. Afterward they took us on a tour of the boathouse that is also like a “team house.” But beware, your arms will kill afterward.
