This small zoo has since a lot of changes over the years. I’d say it’s in its best shape since they’ve opened their “Africa” exhibit. I took the kids I’m babysitting here and they really loved it. Apparently this exhibit took them nearly three years to put together. The Africa exhibit showcases animals like giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and lions. You can walk up this wooden boardwalk and catch a really great view of the giraffes from there. Admission is $8 for adults and $4.25 for children.
Things to do
Take a sightseeing cruise on an authentic paddle-wheeler steamboat. You’ll cruise for about an hour and a half and the Captain will tell you Mark Twain-era stories from the intercom. I recommend going on one of these in the fall. You’ll be amazed by the Illinois landscape and all its changing colors. The staff is very polite and they really go out of their way to recreate an old-fashion atmosphere. About thirty miles outside Peoria.
