Perhaps the area's top cultural spot is the Museo de Navarra, a small but interesting museum dedicated to Navarra's rich cultural, artistic and historical heritage. La Navarrería, once the Roman town of Pompaelo, is the oldest part of Pamplona's compact center and a delight for any visitor. The star-shaped citadel was built in the 16th century, back when Pamplona was considered a major military outpost close to the French border.
