Otaru (小樽市) is a small fisherman's town in Hokkaido, close to Sapporo city. It became famous with Iwai Shunji's movie "Love letter". (The main character crying out "ogenki desukaaaaaaa" on a snowy white hill, remembering her ex boyfriend).
They still keep the atmosphere of the old fisherman's town but instead of shipping boats, they greet visitors. The wooden storage house became cafes and restaurants. You will find glass work studios and orgol everywhere, which has become the symbol of Otaru.
