When we have guests visiting Newport we always make sure to introduce them to the Cliff Walk. It really showcases beautiful Rhode Island at its best. It’s about a three mile path located right on these dizzying cliffs, looking right out on the ocean. The view is exquisite. A lot of locals come here to exercise so there can be a lot of traffic on the trail when the weather’s nice. The breeze off the ocean is really great for runners because it cools them off.
Things to do
This mansion is outrageous. There are a lot of gaudy mansions in Newport, but none can trump this one. When you enter you’re given a pair of headphones and begin your own self-guided tour. The headphones will tell you a ton of facts about the home, its history, its décor, and the family that inhabits it. Apparently descendants still stay on the mansion's third floor. Again, the home is obscenely decorated. You might leave feeling a little irritated about their seemingly frivolous spending.
This is a cool, unique art museum located inside a converted house. The home itself is very charming and utilizes what I saw as German architecture. There are a lot of different styles of art here – painting, drawings, sculptures, glasswork, crafts – in here so you’re bound to find something you find attractive. They also offer art classes here for children too. It makes me wish I lived in the area again.
