Montevideo’s Père-Lachaise is Cementerio Central. Built in the beginning of the XVIII century, this park-cemetery tells a very accurate story of what Uruguay was all about and the mixture of peoples that made it what it is today. The magnificent sculptures are highlights of the visit. Famous writers and painters rest here (including Mario Benedetti one of Uruguay’s best known writers). During summer, there are tours that explain every single detail of this amazing place. Highly recommended.
