The Vieux Port (Old Port) is a tourist focal point of the city – but don’t let that deter you!

Located at the end of the Canebière, Vieux Port is a natural harbor that the Phocaeans set up as a trading post in 600BC and remained a maritime center through the 18th century. Surrounding the port is a number of historical sites (Abbey of Saint Victor, Hôtel de Ville, Palais du Pharo, etc.) scattered between restaurants, bars, pubs and cafes.

Saying Vieux Port has an active nightlife is an understatement! Pubs, clubs, and discotheques are hopping on a regular basis. And if you are looking for a place to watch OM (Olympique de Marseille, the local futbol/soccer team) play, almost any pub will have a large screen TV with the game on. Find a spot to watch the game early – the pubs get crowded quickly with locals who are serious about the sport!
