Unexpectedly found behind the city center’s shopping mall, Centre Bourse (home to a number of mainstream, ordinary, chain stores) is the distinctive Jardin des Vistiges. This amazing garden is consists of ancient Greek and Roman ruins that were unearthed during the construction of the mall in 1967. Take a break from shopping, eat lunch, or hang out with the many many many feral cats amongst the ruins.

Items excavated include a boat from the ancient Roman port and its soft water basin and Greek fortifications from the 6th cen BC. Some of these ruins can be seen inside Centre Bourse at the Musée d’Histoire de Marseille.
