Madison’s an artsy town so you must make a point to visit their Museum of Contemporary Art. First off the building itself is a site to see – it’s all glass and the three flights of stairs (also glass) are oddly shaped. There are two large galleries that feature touring and local works and also a theater. On the roof there’s a sculpture garden and a restaurant that has excellent sandwiches. It really makes you feel like you’re in an art gallery in a big city, like the Chicago’s MCA.
Things to do
When I was a student in Madison we would eat at Husnu’s all the time. I really miss it and I haven’t found a place quite like it yet. Husnu’s serves Turkish, Italian, and Mediterranean cuisine in a casual, dimly lit setting. It’s right on State so you can do plenty of people watching. I've likely tried everything once, but always come back to the Kabak Dolmasi. It’s a perfect hybrid of the three cuisines: acorn squash with chicken stew, topped with tomato sauce and cucumber yogurt sauce.
