Potala Palace was built by Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo for his new bride Princess Wencheng in 641. It is located on the Red Hill, the highest point of Lhasa. Wencheng, a princess of the Tang Dynasty, brought a range of very rare Buddhist treasures with her, like statues and scriptures. Now many of them are on display in the palace. The palace occupies a space of 90,000 square meters. And it is divided into two parts - the White Palace and the Red Palace.
