Shyok River meets the Nubra River to form a large valley that separates the Ladakh and the Karakoram Ranges. The common way to access this valley is to travel over the Khardung La. It was the natural access to caravans of the Silk Road. From there they agreed to Leh and from there to Pakistan. Today there are still some camels in the small desert. Nubra is also a fertile valley full of crops, including apricot.
Non-locals require an "Inner Line" permit (easily obtained in Leh town) to enter.
