Jishō-ji (慈照寺 - Temple of Shining Mercy) is a Zen temple designed by Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa (1490) emulating the Kinkaku-ji built by his grandfather years before. It's better known as Ginkaku-ji (銀閣寺 - Temple of the Silver Pavilion) because of the initial plans, never realized, to cover its walls in silver foil. The complex of gardens includes a famous sand garden located in front of the main building.
