Things to do
Looking for art in Kiev, goodness the is so much to choose from, with over 20 museums and art galleries to pick from. A very modern one is Atelier Karas and its full of very modern stuff, sculpture, mixed media´s and really cool. For generic art try on Andriyivsky Exhibition Hall. Both are open 7 days a week from 11am till 6pm. These are my favs but there is alot gonna on with new stuff every week so keep a good eye out or else just pick the flyers around everywhere !!!
There are 109 different registered markets in Kiev. Most of them were built at the beginning of the last century like Vladimirskiy, Zytniy or famous the Besarabka Market. Talk about a lot of stuff, and stuff and stuff to buy and to choose from, from hand made suits and shoe´s to puppies, a really great way to spend the day or days even !!!
If you ever wanted to see an opera but found it to expensive then its very cheap in Kiev, starting from as little as €5.25. Other european cities play on the fact that opera is not an option for most people but in Kiev is completely the opposite. The opera is a beautiful Neo-Renaissance building and is said to sit on a site centuries old. The line up for this summer is very diverse, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Bizet, Minkus and Ravel to name a few. Go and listen !!!!
The metro in Kiev started working in 1960. There are three lines and 43 stations. Eash side of the city is connected through the Metro bridge. The road traffic in Kiev is so heavy, metro is the fastest and most convenient mode of transport. The metro is crazy during rush hours as it gets so crowded. Between 7am & 8am and again at 5pm & 6pm.Its open from 6am - 12pm daily.A ticket is around €0.20 cents valid for one ride. Its easy to get around even if nobody speaks english !!
