is a palace in Jaipur, India. It was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. Hawa Mahal was a window to the outer world for the royal ladies. Is an elemental part of the City Palace complex of Jaipur, yet it stands away from it and commands its own identity from the passerby. Standing on one of the main streets of Jaipur, the Hawa Mahal still quietly monitors the affairs of the city dwellers and welcomes anyone who comes to inspect it.
Things to do
the City Palace of Jaipur or the main palace is an imposing blend of traditional Rajasthan and Mughal architecture. Originally built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of the Kachhwaha clan of Rajputs, additions have been made to the palace complex by many of his successors. It takes one hour walk arround and enjoy imaging that times.
The Elephant Festival and Holi Festival weekend in Jaipur is a riot of colour! The elephants were decked out in their finery, living canvases paraded proudly by their dignified riders. Dancers swirled around them frenetically, with demure female characters dressed in lehenga choli revealed to actually be men! The day ended with a "take no prisers" paint fight, us against an army of gulal-slinging Indian kids - it took DAYS to scrub the bright colours from our skin. An unforgettable experience!
It means the begining of the monsoon season. The Teej Festival of Jaipur is celebrated to honor the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. In this festival, devotees prayer to Goddess Parvati and seek her blessings for marital bliss and happiness.
The Raj Mandir, open since 1976 is one of the most interesting cinemas in India. The architectural style is quite "kitsch", almost like a large cream pie. Is nice to see the reaction of the indian viewers in front of a Bollywood film. An evening guaranteed.
