Yerebatan Sarnıcı (Basilica Cistern)

cultured

Yerebatan is the biggest ancient underground cistern of Istanbul, built in the era of Byzantine Empire. The cistern was turned into a visitable place that sometimes concerts take place. The acoustic is amazing and gives interesting echoes even for a single drop onto the water. Spending an hour really rests your mind and the humid air opens your breathing canals that makes you feel really energetic afterwards. It also holds the Medusa head column which its origin is unknown!
