The festival is dedicated to worship the Mother Goddess or Shakti and her nine forms. Is invoked to start the new harvest season and to reactivate the vigor and fertility of the soil. This is done through religious performances and rituals which invoke cosmic forces that are believed to rejuvenate the soil. Is celebrated during the first nine days of the Hindu month of Ashvin (September-October). In Nepal and India is one of the most important festivals o the year.
