El Morro National Monument

ADD TO MY TRIP

El Morro is a large flat mesa, on top of which is are the remains of a 13th century Anasazi pueblo, and is also where you can find "Inscription Rock" where you can find native american petroglyphs alongside the names of the invading Spaniard soldiers, explorers and settlers - there's even an inscription by the 1st governor of New Mexico (while it still belonged to Spain) Juan de Oñate.
