La Laboral City of Culture is the result of a transformation project the Government of the Principality of Asturias undertook in 2001 in order to give new life to the building of the old Laboral University of Gijón.
The project became a reality in March 2007: it was the birth of La Laboral City of Culture, an open and plural 21st Century cultural city, offering space for all kinds of shows and leisure proposals.
Things to do
It is imperative that you visit the Eulogy of the Horizon by the famous Spanish sculptor Eduardo Chillida, on the way Gijon you pass by the hill of Santa Catalina. It is here that this wonderful free airy piece is and it is so beautiful in is isolation on the mountain.
Another really cool and amazing thing to do in Gijon is to visit the Art Centre. Hot fresh amazing art work and great to go around. Like an organic process this centre is constantly moving, changing and being different. A good experience.
This is a really cool way to spend an afternoon as their is so many really amazing plants to be seen here and what makes it a little different is that the plants all come from Atlantic coastal regions. Its a nice little trip to see these exciting plants.
