Ganga sagar is the confluence of river Ganga and Bay of Bengal. The Ganga Sagar mela (fair) is the largest annual assemblage of devotees in India. The mela is organised during the ‘Makarsankranti’, approximately mid December. Over a million pilgrims come from corners of India, speaking different languages and belonging to diverse castes, for a sacred dip at this holy confluence. The pilgrimage may be extremely hard but the pilgrims know that the trip will purify their souls.
