If you want to see how the Amish lived back in the 1940’s, then take a trip to Rockome Gardens in Arcola, Illinois. With over 20+ attractions including an authentic soda fountain, an “enchanted cave,” broom making, and pony rides, you will be sure to find something for everyone. Obviously a lot of the activities are interactive – like “Tic Tac Toe Chicken” – so it’s an ideal and wholesome day trip for children. Rockome also provides lodging, restaurants, and gift shops.
Things to do
When you’re stuck in the Midwest, Raging Rivers might be the closest you’ll ever get to the “ocean.” Located in Grafton, Illinois (5 hour drive from Chicago), Raging Rivers brings the water to you with an array of water rides. Some of these include a wave pool, lazy river, “swirl pool,” and “runaway raft ride.” Raging Rivers is definitely an ideal place for kids in the summer. There’s also an “Ity Bity Surf City” for younger kids and sun decks for (presumably) adults.
