is the only planned city across India. Maintains order, cleanliness and a very strict laws, like not being able to smoke or drink. It was designed by the architect Le Corbusier in 1950. Temples, monuments, artificial lakes, parks ...
Anyway is a step to Himachal Pradesh, more than a site with much interest.

In addition to the planned city environment of Le Courbousier, Chandigarh is the home to Nek Chand's Rock Garden, a 40 Acre Folk art environment of epic proportions, having 1000's of sculptures made form recycled materials, wandering paths and doorways. It is absolutely not to be missed.

I understand the Chandigarh is not "the chaos you are looking for" when you come to India, but it is a beautiful city, and it is a good place to relax and get some bearing on some familiar settings, wide open spaces.

It is also not the only planned city. Possibly the only planned city by Le Corbousier. It was built as a new and modern capital for Northern India after partition. it houses a lovely art museum, and a city museum that talks about the building/planning process, An Art and Architecture School as well as several universities. Sector 17 houses a massive shopping plaza, be sure to visit the shops on the second level and basement levels for better deals, an interesting, rarely traveled shopping experience. It is a city where I feel safe more often than not, but as always, it is important to keep your wits about you.
