One of the first churches in Bogotá. It was under the care of the Santa Cruz brotherhood, which was in charged, among other things, of assisting the last moments of prisioners sentenced to death and bury them. It's because of this that the rests of independance fighters such as José María Carbonell, Antonio Villavicencio and Francisco José de Caldas were buried under its grounds. It was declared a National Pantheon.
