Bodie is an old mining town from the time of the California goldrush in the Sierra Nevada mountains that has been carefully restored and preserved, and although it feels a little less creepy it has the added advantage of actually showing you more about how these little mining towns were when folks were living in them. It's not far from Mono Lake and would be a good stop if you're headed to one of the natural parks in the area.
