Beautiful island, perfect getaway spot. Gorgeous food and wine. Scrummy ice-cream. Great variety of scenery. Perfect for cycling - flat, miles of car-free cycle paths, bike hire places everywhere. Try a tandem! Lovely weather. Stay in Hotel le Galion..very tranquil. Gorgeous views from 2nd floor. Go during 'off season' time .. its mobbed in July/August. BUT, beware - if you're seeking hectic nightlife, this is definitely not for you!!

BTW...Hotel le Galion is not in Ars en Ré - its in St Martin de Ré. There are 10 villages on the island (technically not an island as its linked by bridge to La Rochelle). Ars en Ré is one of the villages. Try La Flotte also...a very scenic village.
