When there’s not a Six Flags in sight, Dorney’s is a good second bet -- and it’s cheaper. You’ve got two parks here, an amusement park and a water park. I prefer the amusement park because I always had a weird gross feeling after getting out of the water. My family thinks I’m crazy though because they love the water park. The amusement park has a ton of metal coasters as well as old, wooden ones. The “Steel Force” coaster is the most popular ride and has a huge drop.
Things to do
I’m from Chicago and you can’t find old-school, wooden skate rinks like this there. I love this place and it totally sends me back to my kid days. I’m twenty-three and I still like skating around in a circle to top forty radio. I frankly don’t care who sees me! Of course you should be aware that they’re a ton of little kids here. Sometimes you might trip over them but otherwise they’re easy to ignore (remember you’re a big kid too).
My mom is super into Christmas so she’ll drag us to see The Christmas Carol here every year. I haven’t seen any other plays here besides that but The Christmas Carol has always been good. I go here for the independent, art-house movies. There isn’t much of a platform for indie films anywhere else in Allentown. Pretty much another who’s interested in art will conjugate at this theater. The theater itself is pretty beautiful and makes a great, unique backdrop for a film.
This is one of my favorite places to go. It really solves that problem you get when you're bored with (a) drinking, (b) paying $10 to see a movie, (c) sitting at home. Basically you and a couple buddies come in here, pick a plain ceramic object, and paint it however you please with glaze. They’ll fire it and you’ll pick it up a few weeks later, ta-da! Note, your colors probably won’t come out exactly as you thought. It takes some time to figure out.
